Building community for future generations
The Sri Lanka Canada Association of Calgary traces its origins to 1978 when a group of Sri Lankan families came together with a vision of building a strong and connected community in Calgary. Under the leadership and initiative of its founder, Jayantha Senaviratne, the association was formally established as a non-profit organization in 1979. Since then, the association has served as a gathering place for Sri Lankans in Calgary, promoting cultural heritage, community engagement, and lasting friendships across generations.
Over the past four decades, the association has organized cultural celebrations, family events, community programs, sports activities, and charitable initiatives that have helped preserve Sri Lankan traditions while strengthening community bonds. Today, the association continues to build on the vision of its founders by fostering unity, cultural pride, and a sense of belonging for present and future generations.
